Lena Marie Kosted

Lena Marie Kosted, 97, passed away at home with her family by her side on Thursday, January 26, 2023.
 
Lena Marie Kosted was born December 15, 1925 in Adair, Oklahoma, the last of 8 children, to James Agustus and Lura Alice (Perkins) Boston.  She attended school in Adair, graduating with the class of 1944.  Lena began working for Southwestern Bell Telephone after high school and it is there where she met her future husband.  On April 26, 1946, she married Johnnie Abraham Kosted and the couple made Chelsea home for a short time before moving to Tulsa.  Lena and Johnnie raised one child, Candice Marie.  In 1969 they moved to Bixby and spent their time in retirement between Bixby and Grand Lake. Lena and Johnnie were married just short of 62 years before Johnnie’s passing in 2008. 
 
Family came first to Lena, but she also worked while living in Tulsa, first for Harris Upham and later Merrill Lynch.  She enjoyed her time at work and learned the ins and outs of the stock market, which she enjoyed following daily until her passing.  Her joy was spending time with her grandchildren and later great grandchildren.  She was their biggest cheerleader and could be quite the loud fan at their events.  She and Johnnie loved to travel; Alaska and Hawaii were a couple of their favorites, and they also enjoyed road trips across the United States.  In later years Lena spent time in her garden, never turned down a shopping trip and enjoyed watching OSU and Thunder basketball on TV.  Lena was a member of Christ the Redeemer Lutheran Church and read her daily devotional and Bible studies up until the day prior to her passing.
 
Those family members that survive include her daughter Candice Marie Schmook and husband Lynn; her granddaughters Sara Marie Schmook-James and husband Will and Genevieve Schmook; her great grandchildren Genna Marie Schmook-James, Michael Abraham Neff, and Hagin James, and countless nieces and nephews.  Lena was preceded in death by her parents, husband Johnnie and her siblings, Robert, Ruth, Sarah, Blanche, Ethelene, Jim and John.
