Inola, Oklahoma

A Celebration of Life for Mariano Lewis Alves will be 11:00a.m., Monday, December 22, 2025, at Inola Funeral Home Chapel. Mariano, cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on December 12, 2025, at the age of 96 in Inola, Oklahoma.

Born on November 13, 1929, in Bristol, Rhode Island, to Mariano Lewis Alves, Sr. and Helena Sousa (Garasa) Alves, Mariano lived a life filled with dedication, love, and a deep sense of community.

Mariano spent most of his life in California, where he devoted many years working for the water and sewer plant. His commitment to his work was matched only by his devotion to his family. On September 29, 1955, Mariano married Hazel Maxine Pellus. Their love story flourished over decades, and in their pursuit of a close-knit family life, they moved to Inola approximately 28 years ago to be near their son.

A man of many interests, Mariano had a passion for carpentry and enjoyed the thrill of hunting during his younger years. He possessed an innate ability to connect with people, never meeting a stranger. His warm and inviting personality made him a beloved figure at the local café, where he could often be found sharing stories and laughter with friends and family alike. Mariano’s heart was always with his children and grandchildren, and he savored every moment spent with them.

Mariano’s legacy continues through his loving family.  He is survived by his devoted wife, Hazel Alves, and their sons, Randy Alves and his wife Teresa, as well as Stacey Alves. He was a proud grandfather to Sarah Kizzia and her husband Tucker, Suezette Graham and her husband Jayson, Shauna Raasch and her husband Daniel, Brian Alves, and Jovonnie Alves. Additionally, Mariano leaves behind a remarkable lineage of 21 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom have been touched by his nurturing spirit. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Joe, John, Ed, and Edith, who remain forever in the hearts and memories of those who knew and loved him.
