Marilyn Sue Rue, of Chelsea, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 11, 2025, at the age of 74.
Born in Vinita, Oklahoma, to Hise and Dorothy (Terry) Wills, Marilyn was raised in Chelsea, where she began a life rooted in compassion, resilience, and generosity.
Early in her life, Marilyn pursued a career as a beautician, sharing her creativity and warmth with the community of Chelsea. Later, she returned to her hometown of Vinita and began working in the medical field, where her natural gift for caregiving was evident to all who knew her. While raising her four children, she balanced the demands of work and family.
Eventually, Marilyn made her way back to Chelsea. She held many jobs over the years, always putting her whole heart into everything she did. Her entrepreneurial spirit truly shone when she began managing—and later purchased—the Mini Mart, a local convenience store that became more than just a business. It became a cornerstone of the community. Whether it was a friendly conversation at the counter or a hot slice of Simple Simon’s pizza, Marilyn’s kindness and presence made everyone feel welcome.
It was also in Chelsea where she would meet Tom Rue. The couple married on July 17, 2000, in Miami, Oklahoma. They made their home in Chelsea and later lived in Tupelo, Oklahoma, for nine years before returning to Chelsea to be closer to family.
Marilyn had a passion for life that was contagious. She once appeared on American Bandstand, a cherished memory she held close for years. She loved dancing, attending yard sales and auctions, decorating for every holiday and occasion, and visiting the casino for a little fun. Her home was her pride and joy, and she had a gift for making it a warm and inviting place for all.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hise and Dorothy Wills; her brother, Danny Wills; and her sisters, Sandra Stanart and Joyce Lord.
Marilyn is survived by her beloved husband, Tom Rue, of the home; her children: Troy Steidley and wife Kristi, Traci Hanebrink and husband Cordell, Amy Haner, and Randy Haner and Sarah; and her stepchildren: Tommy Rue, Tammy Rue, Andrea Taylor and husband Jay, and Todd Rue and wife Amanda.
She leaves behind a legacy of love in her grandchildren: Tia, Braden, Kaylen, Elizabeth, Kendel, Paige, Ciera, Ayonna, Talliah, Kye, Ethan, Nathan, Chelsea, Blaine, Brooklyn, Eastyn, Derrick, Dylan, Devon; Hunter and Channing; as well as eight great-grandchildren. Marilyn also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
