In the evening of December 27th 2022, at the age of 90, Norma Jean McGill was welcomed home by a host of Heavenly Angels, surrounded by loving family members. She was born December 10, 1932, to John and Elizabeth Hart in the small community of Winganon, Oklahoma. Jean had a happy childhood, the youngest of 7 children. She completed 8 years of school at Winganon School and then finished her education at Talala High School and graduated with the class of 1951.
She happily married her high school sweetheart Robert McGill in 1952. Robert was scheduled to leave for Korea in February of 1953 and Jean told Robert that she wanted to be married before he was called to service, and that’s just what they did. The two wed at the Wedding Chapel in Miami, Oklahoma on December 22, 1952. The two spent the next eleven years building their family across military bases in Texas, Kansas, and even Guam.
Following Robert’s military career, the family made their home in Chelsea, Oklahoma in 1964, where they enjoyed raising their two sons and daughter. Jean enjoyed fishing, bowling, and being an active member in her congregation at First Baptist Church. Jean loved Jesus, and especially loved her family and grandkids, who called her “Mema”. She was a woman of discernment and had the gentlest way of passing on her wisdom. She believed in holding family tight and making moments count. In honor of Norma Jean McGill’s memory, may we all hug each other tighter, and make each moment last.
She is preceded in death by her parents John and Elizabeth Hart; siblings Beatrice Wallace, Bessie Kirby, Viola Nathan, Edith Bowman, Lois Custer, and Bill Hart. As well as Daughter-In-Love Joella Crouch.
Jean is survived by her husband of 70 years, Robert McGill, of Chelsea, OK; children Keith McGill and wife Sharon, of Collinsville, OK, Linda Prock and husband Les, of Claremore, OK, Kevin McGill and wife Paula, of Cabot, AR, Sue Long and wife Kathy Shewmaker, of Lafayette, IN; grandchildren Jeremy McGill and wife Angie, of Owasso, OK, Devin Prock and wife Shaundell, of Pryor, OK, Courtney Nichols and husband Casey, of Broken Arrow, OK, Aaron Prock and wife Meagan, of Claremore, OK, Zach McGill and partner Leroy Cypert, of Tulsa, OK, Kevin McGill, Jr. and wife Angela, of Beebe, AR, Rachel Golden and husband William, of Claremore, OK, Amanda Jones and husband David, of Beebe, AR, Joel Crouch and wife Kelley, of Hurst, TX, as well as 19 beautiful great-grandchildren.
