Opal Nadine Thompson, a beloved wife, mother, and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2025, in Chelsea, Oklahoma. Born on March 21, 1934, in Okmulgee County, Opal was the daughter of Arlis T. and Minnie Opal (Gosley) Tabor. She received her education at Cherokee Central and Alluwe schools. It was at church that she met her future husband, Warren Paul Thompson, and they married on January 3, 1950, beginning a partnership that would define much of her life.
Opal was renowned for her dedication to her family and her remarkable ability to nurture both crops and relationships. An incredible helpmate on the family farm, she truly was a jack-of-all trades. Her extensive gardening skills led to bountiful harvests, much of which she canned with pride. In addition to her green thumb, Opal was a gifted seamstress, capable of reproducing garments without patterns, and enjoyed quilting and crocheting, lovingly creating treasured items for her loved ones.
Family was central to Opal’s existence. She dedicated herself to spending quality time with them, exemplifying the love and devotion she felt toward each member. In addition to her family life, Opal was a strong pillar in her community, actively involved in her church. A faithful member, she served as a Sunday School teacher and contributed her time to vacation Bible school, leaving a lasting Christian influence on many families and friends she encountered.
Opal had a variety of interests beyond her pastoral and family commitments. She found joy in woodworking, crafting delicate hope chests, occasional tables, entertainment centers, and kitchen cabinets, each reflecting her creativity and skill. Travel was another passion of hers, with cherished memories of exploring many places across the United States and enjoying the stunning views of the Smoky Mountains alongside Warren.
Her legacy is carried on by her children, Linda Pinkston and husband John, and Patsy Brent and husband Gene. She was proud of her grandchildren, Kevin, Kerry, Julia, Cheryl, Mandy, Stacy, Aaron, and Kalon, as well as her 24 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren, each adding joy and purpose to her life. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Warren Paul Thompson, her parents, Arlis T. and Minnie Opal (Gosley) Tabor, and her siblings, Ida Homan, Bill Tabor, and Alta Culbert.
Opal Nadine Thompson will be remembered not only for her countless contributions to her family but also for her unwavering faith, industrious spirit, and compassion for others.
