Funeral services for Patty Bushyhead will be held on Wednesday, December 6, 2023at Catoosa First Baptist Church in Catoosa OK with burial to follow at Resthaven Cemetery in Sperry, OK.
Patty Jean Bushyhead, 87, passed away on Friday, December 1, 2023 surrounded by her family. She was born to Robert and Johnny (Williams) Cates on July 30, 1936, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Patty spent her early years at Barnsdall 55 grade school before moving to Sperry. She attended Sperry High School, graduating as Valedictorian of the Class of 1954. During her time in school, she was notably engaged as a point guard for the girl’s basketball team.
It was in high school that Patty met the love of her life, Jimmy Bushyhead. She was 14 and he 15. They married on June 25, 1954, settling in Sperry before later moving to Tulsa. Seeking a new venture in 1969, they established Bushyhead Catoosa Auto Supply in Catoosa, Oklahoma, which they operated together for over 30 years before moving the venture to Verdigris, OK. For over 37 years, Patty was an integral figure in the success of their enterprise. She was the backbone that kept the store going.
Patty was a person of faith, cherishing her baptism in Sperry in 1956 and her involvement in church activities. She had a zest for travel, enjoying trips to various destinations in the United States and abroad. Patty loved to square dance, concerts, going to sporting events, and crocheting, and was known for her outstanding cooking abilities. Above all, her greatest joy came from spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Patty was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Johnny Cates, infant son, Jimmy Bushyhead Jr., and her brother Jack Cates.
She is survived by her husband, Jimmy Bushyhead; son, Brent Bushyhead and wife Phyllis; daughter, Gale Rowley and husband Robert; grandchildren, Lindsey Stewart and husband Matt, Brett Virdell and wife Kaitlin, Jake Rowley and wife Sherry, Joshua Bushyhead and wife Kaylea, Beca Paiva and husband Derek, Maegan Johnson, Jacob Bushyhead and wife Aubrey, Gavin Bushyhead, Dana Camphill and spouse Tracey, and Eric Welch; great-grandchildren, Bryce Stewart, Madelyn and Danny Virdell, Jaydence, Racee, Chevelle, and Lakota Rowley, Parker and Charlotte Johnson, Declan Bushyhead and Jaxson Swaggerty, Elias, Amos, Petra, Rafael and Jathan Paiva, Emma James Bushyhead, and Sabre Clark, along with many loved nieces and nephews and life long friends.
