Rebecca Lynn Bolding Cowherd passed away peacefully on October 3, 2025, due to complications from a stroke. She was 64 years old.
Rebecca "Becky" was born on July 13, 1961, in Hobart, Oklahoma, to W.L. and Sylvia Bolding. She was raised in Hobart, where she attended school, made lifelong friends, and played multiple sports. She also had a love for music and played the piano. A proud graduate of Hobart High School’s Class of 1979, //Becky went on to earn her business degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 1983.
She began her professional career at First Federal Savings, where life would bring her a blessing greater than any job title—meeting C. L. “Sam” Cowherd. The two began dating and were married on February 18, 1995, in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. They made their home in Claremore, where Rebecca became an active and beloved member of the community.
Rebecca had a kind heart and a joyful spirit. She loved spending time in her yard, traveling, crafting, and cooking meals for friends and family. She had a competitive edge when it came to playing cards—especially the family's contract rummy game, and most recently followed in her parents' footsteps by learning to play bridge. Baseball trips with Sam were a highlight of their life together, and she cherished every adventure they took. Rebecca also had a fondness for beautiful things, both in the keepsakes she collected and the memories she created. Many of those memories included Sam's and her love for cats and dogs.
She was a member of the First Christian Church of Claremore, the Elks Lodge, and was active in the P.E.O. sisterhood, where she formed strong bonds with other women in the community.
Rebecca was preceded in death by her loving husband, Sam Cowherd, and her mother, Sylvia Bolding.
She is survived by her father, W. L. Bolding; her sisters, Mary Beth Ford (Julian) and Brooke Coney (Greg); nieces and nephews, Allison Wilson, Jason Ford, Katlyn Gilbert, Robyn Coney, Carly Ogan, and Connor Coney; a growing number of great-nieces and nephews; and her cherished dogs, Sadie Sue and Mazie Mae.
Rebecca will be remembered for her warm smile, generous heart, and the love she poured into her family, her friendships, and her community. She will be deeply missed by all who know her.
Memorial service for Rebecca Cowherd will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 10, 2025, at the First Christian Church in Claremore.
Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church online at fccclaremore.org or mail to 1010 N. Florence Ave. Claremore, Ok 74017
