Sarah Jean Scott, born Sarah Jean McCarty on February 22, 1940, in Columbia, Missouri, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2025, in Claremore, Oklahoma. She was the cherished daughter of Howard C. and Eunice M. (Barnes) McCarty and was a proud graduate of Hickman High School, class of 1958.
Sarah dedicated her professional life to retail sales, with a significant career at Sears, where she worked diligently until her retirement. Her work ethic and commitment to service were a testament to her character and she left a lasting impact on those who had the privilege of knowing her in that capacity.
On March 27, 1989, she married Ben Scott, embarking on a journey together that would last nearly 36 years until his passing on January 13, 2025. Their partnership was marked by love, laughter, and a deep bond.
Sarah's passions extended beyond her professional life. She was an avid traveler, with a particular fondness for cruises that allowed her to explore new places and create lasting memories. Sarah delighted in spending quality time with her family, valuing holidays and cookouts that brought everyone together. Her support for her grandchildren's sporting events showcased her dedication as a grandmother, always cheering them on from the sidelines. She also relished the joy of dancing and listening to live music at the Elephant Run, a place that brought her happiness.
She is survived by her loving children, Greg Gibson and wife Laurita of Clarksville, Tennessee, Natalie Welch and husband John of Claremore, and Jennifer Gibson of Franklin, Tennessee. Additionally, she leaves behind her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including Sarah Benefield and daughter Macyn Rollins, Grant Benefield and wife Allyssa with their son Hayden and daughter Kyelynn, and Clifton Gibson and wife Anna with their daughter Darla.
Sarah was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Eunice McCarty, and her siblings, Russell Dean McCarty and Judy Ann Cottle.
Sarah Jean Scott will be remembered for her warm spirit, her love of family, and her enduring legacy that continues to inspire those she leaves behind.
