Sherry Lynn Hagebusch Austin, born on July 20, 1951, in Nowata, Oklahoma, to Ted and Joyce (Taggart) Hagebusch, passed away peacefully with her children and grandchildren by her side, on June 26, 2025. Sherry’s education took place at Alluwe, where she graduated with the class of 1969, reflecting the strong foundational values that shaped her life.
On August 7, 1968, Sherry married Morris Dale Austin, and together they established their home in Alluwe, Oklahoma. Her commitment to family was unwavering; as a devoted mother, she prioritized raising her children and creating a nurturing environment. Sherry worked in various roles throughout her career, including positions at the office of the coal mines and the 1st National Bank. However, it was her role as a wife, mother, daughter and sister that defined her, where she found the greatest joy and purpose in life.
Sherry was known for her vibrant personality and was often described as the life of the party. Her home quickly became a beloved gathering spot for her children's friends, filled with laughter and warmth. She had an innate ability to make everyone feel welcome, and when her grandchildren came into her life, her love for them only grew deeper, ensuring each grandchild felt uniquely cherished.
Creativity blossomed in Sherry through her passion for painting ceramics, and various crafting endeavors. Her love of music was apparent in the vast collection of 45's and albums she collected over the years. Her artistic flair brought beauty to her world and touched the lives of those around her. Game nights were another cherished tradition, where her competitive spirit shone brightly, especially during spirited games of wahoo, where she and her sister and partner, Tammy, most often emerged victorious. She loved to travel and trips to St. Thomas with her family were her favorite.
Proceeding her in death is her father, Ted Hagebusch. She is survived by her mother, Joyce Luttrell, brother Fred and wife Barbara Hagebusch, sister Debbie and husband Butch Winters, sister Tammy and husband Kenny Root, sister-in-law Linda Sutherland, brother-in-law Eddie Austin; husband, Morris; daughter Shawndy and son-in-law, Ronnie Moreland; daughter Tracy Hester and son-in-love Rusty Carter; son Randy Austin, and daughter-in-love Bridget White. Grandchildren Dakota and Shelby McElyea, Roni and Justin Stark, Chy and Mason Mefford, Ashtyn and Shelby Thomas, Kyndra Hester, Sheridyn Ward, Caitlynn and Corbin Austin. Great-grandchildren Lakota, Logan, EverLynn, Bentley, Major, Darcy, and Wrangler. She loved every niece, nephew and cousin that our large families contributed to.
Sherry Lynn Austin leaves behind a legacy of love, creativity, humor and devotion. Her spirited presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
