Terry Hughes known to many as "uncle pits" passed away on May 12, 2016 at 10:31 p.m., at OSU Medical Center, Tulsa, at the age of 60.
The son of Orville Hughes and Mary Melton Hass was born July 28, 1955 in Nowata, Oklahoma. There he would begin attending Nowata schools and finished in Alluwe in 1973. He then began his working career in the area oilfields. One weekend while on leave from the oil fields, Terry attended a dance at the local VFW. It was there that he first met Janice White. They would marry on October 23, 1980 at the First Baptist Church in Chelsea. The next several years would take him to many oil fields all over the country. He worked every where from Kansas to New Mexico and many places in between. His knowledge of the oil fields took him from pumper, to rig operator and finally to supervisor where he worked in the Hospah oil fields in New Mexico for the last 10 years of his career. In 2013, wanting to move closer to family Terry moved to Chelsea.
In his spare time Terry enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing with his miniature yorkie Chico. However his favorite thing to do was to spend time with his family, especially his grandkids.
He is preceded in death by his father, Orville Hughes and step father, CB Hass.
Survivors include his wife Janice of the home; sons, Mike Hughes and wife, Shelly of Missouri, and Josh Hughes and wife, Veda of New Mexico; step-son, Chris McKee of Nowata; mother, Mary Hass of Nowata; sister, Leota Sealy of Nowata; grandchildren, Katana, Wrangler, Angelica, Michelle, Sophia and Joshua Hughes; step-grandchildren, Devin and Austin Hess, Erin Livingston, Brittney Lowry, and Amanda Drenner along with numerous brother and sisters-in-law, and nieces and nephews.
