Thomas “Tom” Leroy Karr, 86, of Foyil, Oklahoma, passed away on August 18, 2025.
Tom was born on July 12, 1939, in Cushing, Oklahoma, to Landon and Pearl Karr. When he was young, his family moved from Cushing to Foyil by train with everything they owned, where they would settle and make their home. Tom grew up in Foyil and graduated from Foyil Public Schools.
After high school, Tom felt the call of duty and proudly served eight years in the United States Army. During that time, he met the love of his life, Mary, and the two later married. They made their first home in Claremore before building a farm in Foyil, where they raised horses and cattle. That farm remains standing to this day and continues to support four generations of the Karr family.
Tom had a passion for the outdoors and country living. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming, roping, riding horses, and working in the hay fields. He and Mary loved to go square dancing together, and in his later years, Tom could often be found singing karaoke and dancing at the American Legion on Saturday nights. He shared many adventures with his loyal dachshund, Fritz, who was always by his side.
For the majority of his life, Tom worked as a coal miner and heavy machinery operator until his retirement from the union. He also volunteered his time as a firefighter and was proud to be a longtime member of the American Legion, where he served for over ten years, often pulling the parade trailer. Tom also served on the Union Hall board and was well respected in his community.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Landon and Pearl Karr; his wife, Mary Karr; and siblings, J.D. Karr, Janie Rogers, Wilma Rader, and Mary Smithy.
He is survived by his sons, Landon Karr and John Karr and wife Jenifer; grandchildren, Shanowa Karr, Thomas Karr, Ryan Cranberg, Jesse Hayes, Shawn Hayes, Riki Young, Jeremy Windel, Dillon Leach, Skylar Karr, Mark Owens, Shelli Robinson, Kyler Hibbs, Jessica Oerman, Jake Oerman, Josh Oerman, Jennifer Fred, Viki Hayes, and Charles Karr; great-grandchildren, Ross Morgan, Mary Karr, Hunter Lasito, Trinity Baker, Renly Hayes, Rya Hayes, Shelieen Balentine, Alex Robinson, Leroy Robinson, Kira Robinson, Issi Robinson, Loveah Fred, Zach Fred, Dakota Sully, Dakota Williams, Lily Williams, Colby Owen, Sara Owens, Brittany Zalmanin; and one great-great-grandchild, Salah Balentine.
Tom will be remembered as a strong, stubborn, and loveable man who lived a life of honor, hard work, and devotion to his family. He now joins his beloved Mary in eternal peace, leaving behind a legacy of love, tradition, and family values that will carry on through the generations.
