Thomas Albert Pope, known affectionately as Tom, passed away peacefully at his home in Chelsea on July 20, 2023 at the age of 77.
The son of Lawrence and Alice (Gawley) Pope was Born January 20, 1946 in Nowata, Oklahoma.   He would later attend  Alluwe schools, graduating in 1965. Following high school, he bravely served his country when he was drafted into the United States Army.  Throughout his life, Tom pursued various careers that showcased both his versatility and hardworking nature. He found great joy working as a thoroughbred horse trainer and demonstrated exceptional skill in this field. Additionally, he exemplified resilience by holding positions as a welder for notable coal and oilfield companies.
Tom shared a beautiful partnership with his beloved wife Ellen, whom he married on April 4, 1967. Together, they embarked on an extraordinary venture by owning and operating a dairy farm for many years.
Perhaps one of Tom's greatest gifts was his ability to connect with others effortlessly. Just like Will Rogers, he possessed an exceptional talent for striking up conversations with anyone who crossed his path. His affable nature made him an instant friend to all lucky enough to meet him. Tom could often be found at the Main Street Diner in Town—a place where he loved nothing more than sitting down and engaging in delightful conversations with friends old and new. In his younger years, he enjoyed the tranquility of fishing trips that allowed him to unwind amid nature's beauty. Additionally, Perry Mason held a special place in his heart as his all-time favorite television show.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Alice; his wife Ellen, his sons Stacy and Chad Pope, and his cherished grandson Dustin Pope; siblings, Jack, Bill, Bob and Loren Pope, Karen Freeman, Betsy Willard, Linda Davis, Clare Radar, Peggy Gawley and Deb Mitchell.
Tom is survived by his daughter-in-law Carey Pope, adopted granddaughter, Peighton Shade, special friendf Tony Acuff and sisters, Joyce Chambers, Cathy Moreland and Sharon Hopkins..
