Funeral service for Viola Stanton will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at the House of Prayer Holiness Church. Burial will follow at Chelsea Cemetery.
Viola passed away on Monday, March 2, 2026, at the age of 91.
Viola was born on November 17, 1934, in Kenwood, Oklahoma, to James and Ada (Pilant) Brown. She later moved with her family to the Foyil area, where she attended Bushyhead and later Foyil Schools. Eventually her family moved to Adair, then on into Pryor.
On November 13, 1952, Viola married Arlo Stanton. The couple lived in Tulsa for a short time before settling east of Chelsea around 1965, where they built a life together and raised their family. Viola worked at Eastern State Hospital, the Chelsea Sewing Factory, and Cinch Furniture, while also helping on the family farm.
In 2008, following the passing of her husband Arlo, Viola married Bob Maupin. They shared several happy years together.
Viola enjoyed traveling across the United States, often accompanying her husband Arlo, during his trucking routes. She loved cooking for her family and took great pride in preparing meals for the community at the Chelsea Senior Center. Her family was her greatest joy, and she faithfully attended the events and activities of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren whenever she could. She was also an avid sports fan, who really enjoyed watching the Oklahoma City Thunder, the OU Sooners, and the St. Louis Cardinals.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Ada Brown; her husbands, Arlo Stanton and Bob Maupin; her siblings, Juanita Chandler, Lonnie Brown, Virginia Lasater, Ruby Combs, and James Brown; and her great-grandson, Noah John Ferder.
She is survived by her children, Arlo “Duane” Stanton and wife Robin; Vickie Webb and husband David; Gordon Stanton and wife Elizabeth; and Anita Costas and husband John; her grandchildren, Jerod, Mandy, Jeremy, Samantha, Adam, Heath, Michael, Keri, April, Sarah, and Logan; 23 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren, with one more expected in June; as well as many other extended family members and friends.
