Wayne Edward Poynor

Celebration of Life Service for Wayne Edward Poynor will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 30, 2026 at the MMS-Payne Funeral Home, Claremore, Oklahoma.

Wayne passed away on May 10, 2026 at the age of 84. He was born January 5, 1942 in Claremore to Ulysses and Ola Belle (Seins) Poynor. He would eventually move to Broken Arrow where he graduated high school with the class of 1960.

Following graduation, Wayne began managing a small retail grocery business before being drafted into the United States Army. During his military service, he earned honors as an expert rifleman. After his discharge, he returned to Oklahoma and began working in the meat department of a local grocery store. Over the next several years, he continued working in the industry throughout Oklahoma and Texas, working as a meat market department manager.

Wayne enjoyed watching NASCAR and drag racing. He also devoted much of his time to volunteering through local churches, often helping by driving the Sunday School bus, picking up the less fortunate children and taking them to and from church, where they made sure each child had a meal. Wayne loved playing card games with his three sisters and spending time with his two grandsons.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Ross Poynor; and sisters, Barbara Davis and Betty Wofford.

Survivors include his daughter, Joey Lewis and husband Steve; grandsons, Nathan and Logan Lankford; sister, Shirley Ewton; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
